Our divers were blessed not with ONE Hawaiian Monk Seal but TWO!
The first dive was a beautiful dive on the back wall of Molokini followed by a shallow dive at Pu'u O'lai along the Makena coast of Maui.
Here we dove with the monk seals while they searched for food and played with the diver's bubbles!
Hawaiian Monk seals are seriously endangered as their numbers are down to only 1000 or so animals left. They are endemic to the Hawaiian islands, meaning that they are not found anywhere else. It is always a treat to see them, much less swim with them, and to watch their incredibly playful antics. They are extremely friendly and unafraid, which unfortunately may be a contributing factor to their diminishing numbers.
